Welcome (Back)!

We start this new academic year under non-ideal circumstances. Many of our classes will be remote learning, but there are still quite a few committed to face-to-face experiences. Most of these are production classes that offer hands on training and/or the production of film and television projects. These projects, and all media related class assignments this Fall, must follow our requirements outlined in the UCF-NSCM Film and Mass Media COVID-19 Production Requirements document. These limitations have been put into place to balance learning outcomes, creative expression, and personal safety. While it will require students to consider and implement new ways of accomplishing what they set out to do, we feel that this still offers significant opportunities to develop, learn, and create. Students are also expected to familiarize themselves with the UCF Returning to Campus plan and its outlined policies and procedures.

All students enrolled in UCF-NSCM Film and Mass Media courses must complete the Return to Production – NSCM COVID webcourse. It is based on the production requirements document. A certificae of completion will be generated to provide you with the means to meet course requirements and/or checkout production facility resources and equipment.

The Film Production Facility will be reduced from a 24/7 facility to limited capacity during business hours. The Film Equipment Room hours of operations will be dynamic this year, look for follow up posts with new time and dates. All editorial and finishing suites must be reserved using our new online reservation system (launches Tuesday, September 8th).

All face-to-face casting, rehearsals, and crew meetings must be kept to a minimum and all facility requests for such activities will be approved on a case-by-case basis.

Hand sanitization stanchions and sanitization wipe dispensers have been placed in our dedicated classrooms, production spaces, and throughout the Nicholson School of Communication and Media building. Individual hand sanitization spritzers have be placed at each computer workstation. Keyboards, mice, and all contact surfaces will be cleaned between users and throughout the day.

The Broadcast Production Facility will be under modified hours. Broadcast Checkout hours of operation will be also dynamic this year, look for follow up posts with times and dates. Zeus logins will be provided to students at checkout or via email by Monday, August 31st.

All labs are still available first come, first served but are operating at reduced capacities. Sanitization supplies are available for students to clean work areas between use. Staff will wiped down computer workstations and surfaces daily with sanitization solutions.

We look forward to an interesting year of challenges as we attempt this return to normalcy.
