Lab, ADR Suite, & Cap Suites Closed for Updates

Spring break is here and we’re taking the time to do some house keeping. The Jonathan Mednick Production Lab | NSC-172, the ADR / Foley Suite | NSC-172B, and the Capstone Editing Suites | NSC-182, 184, 185, & 186 will be closed for software updates on Thursday, March 10th at 9:00AM and will reopen at 5:00PM. These are just standard updates with one exception: An installation of Adobe CS5 Production Premium will be installed in Capstone Editing Suite 1 | NSC-182.

Out with the old and in with the new. UCF Film has acquired support from Showbiz Software by providing us with copies of their amazing Budgeting & Actualization 8 production software. A great tool for all stages of your production:

Programming cycles start:

  • Monday, August 23rd at 8:00AM to 9:00AM and 4:00PM to 5:00PM
  • Tuesday, August 24th at 8:00AM to 9:00AM and 4:00PM to 5:00PM
  • Wednesday, August 25th at 8:00Am to 9:00AM and 4:00PM to 5:00PM
  • Friday, August 27th at 11:AM to 12:00PM

Graduate Production Offices

The effort marches on! Remodeled Graduate Production Offices (GPOs) roll off the assembly line to provide a base of operations for our MFA thesis feature films!

It's FILM production that will win us the war!

Graduate Production Office | CEM-132E is now finalized and will serve as the homebase to Alex Bowser’s MFA thesis feature film “Bad Pixels.” This is the first of three offices being permanently assembled as a graduate workspace. GPO | CEM-132D is on track to come online Friday, June 26th to house Marcos Casilli’s MFA thesis feature film “The Last Two Years of David Brachman,” and GPO | CEM-132B will be available for occupancy the first week of July.

Editing Lab Makeover

The Jonathan Mednick Editing Lab | NSC-172 is receiving a summer makeover in three phases:

Phase 1 will be a remodeling of the physical space – polished floors, repaired lighting, a new coat of paint (we’re thinking something in the ballpark of a light burnt sienna) and a serious furniture upgrade. We are very fortunate to receive several professional grade work surfaces courtesy of FIEA and the College of Arts and Humanities. The new layout will be a modified cubicle space that will allow for comfort, usability, and (finally) some style!

Launching Fall 2010

At the start of  the Fall 2010 semester the UCF Film Operational Portal will be available as an online resource for students, faculty, and staff by providing easy centralized access to information about Department assets and facilities.  Serving as a digital front-end for the Film Dept’s Operations Desk and an answer key to your production questions, this new web site will become a one stop shop for production and classroom support.

Summary of what’s to come:

  • Operational notices – The latest news regarding the Film Department’s assets and facilities direct from me to you.
  • Facility reservation forms that can be downloaded and submitted online.
  • Facility activity calenders providing accurate information about the availability of sound stages, editing suites, classrooms, and more.
  • Virtual Tour – Specifications, guidelines, and photos of our main campus facility in the Nicholson School of Communication (NSC) building and our downtown facility at the Center of Emerging Media (CEM).
  • Equipment requisition forms that can be downloaded and submitted online.
  • Instructional content – PDF outlines, videos, and screen shots that walk you through technical workflows concerning our latest equipment.
