Film and Mass Media Production Facilities

A multi-million dollar, production facility purpose-built to serve the programmatic needs of Film and Mass Media students, faculty and staff. It is located in the Nicholson School of Communication and Media building, on the UCF main campus, and is comprised primarily of two zones:

Broadcast Production Facility

Primarily supports the instructional, research, and creative activities of the students, faculty and staff of the Media Production and Management as well as the Journalism Program Areas.

Film Production Facility

Primarily supports the instructional, research, and creative activities of the students, faculty and staff of the Film, BA, BFA, and MFA Program Areas.

Media Labs and Collaboration Spaces

In the Nicholson School of Communication and Media building there are several specialized computer labs and collaboration spaces to support instruction as well as provide facilities for students to develop projects and complete course assignments. Access to these spaces is dependent on major and what courses you are currently enrolled in.

Media Lab | NSCM 161

A computerized classroom and lab with iMac workstations to support a variety of media projects. Available to Film, Journalism, and Radio-Television students (see the UCF-NSCM Student Production Handbook for a current list of these courses).

Available 24 hours / 7 Days a Week via UCF ID card (when classes are not being held – see calendar below for availability).

  • A/V instructional workstation with Apple 27″ iMac
    • HD video projection and stereo audio monitoring
  • Available software includes Adobe Creative Cloud, DaVinci Resolve, and Microsoft Office.

Newsroom | NSCM 140

A dedicated computer lab, information hub, and collaborative workspace for Journalism and Radio-Television students involved in electronic news gathering activities.

Advanced Media Lab | NSCM 172

High performance iMac Pro workstations to support film/video projects. Available to Film students enrolled in advanced production and studio courses (see the UCF-NSCM Student Production Handbook for a current list of these courses).

Available 24 hours / 7 Days a Week via electronic access using your UCF ID card.

Collaboration Spaces

There are several pre-production and collaborative lab spaces available for students and faculty to develop projects, complete course assignments and directed research. Access to these spaces is dependent on major and what courses you are currently enrolled in.

Collaboration spaces to support script writing, pre-production, and production management activities. Available to Film and Radio-Television students enrolled in production and studio courses.

Production Studios, Sound Stages, Recording and Control Rooms

Equipment Checkout and Facility Reservations

The Film and Mass Media Program at the UCF Nicholson School of Communication and Media provides a large assortment of camera, sound, lighting, grip, and other production equipment to complete course and thesis-generated media assignment, creative projects, and directed research. There are two points of service to procure either equipment or facility resources, depending on which major or courses you are enrolled in:

Studio 500 Production Facility

Located on the UCF Downtown Campus, in the Communication and Media Building, the Studio 500 Production Facility offers professional equipment and facility resources to support advanced student productions.

  • 3,400+ sq ft of production space
  • 22′ full-span overhead lighting grid (4’x4′ Schedule 40 Steel Pipe)
  • ETC Sensor 96-channel dimmer rack (2.4Kw via 20A Bates Paddles)
  • ETC Expression 96-channel dimmer board
  • (2) 600A three-phase Cam-lok AC power drop (1200A total capacity at ground-level)
  • 12’H x 12’W elephant door
  • Access to dock-height and street-level loading area
  • Genie Scissor Lift
  • Arri Tungsten 300w – 5 Kw Fresnel fixtures
  • Arri Tungsten 2Kw Softlight fixtures
  • ETC Source 4 750w Ellipsoidal fixtures
  • Kino Flo fluorescent fixtures
  • Dedicated grip package
  • Rigging and safety hardware
  • Inventory of pre-constructed 4×8 and 4×10 Hollywood-style flats and stage jacks
  • Power and hand tools available

A flexible, private holding area for staging cast or crew away from set.

  • (2) Private room for hair, makeup, and wardrobe
  • Includes a vanity mirror, high-rise makeup chair, and counter top workspace with a dedicated sink basin.
  • Access to near by restroom facility

Equipped with serving tables and a refrigerator to provide for craft services and catered food trays.
